The Key Wasn’t Just for the Door

Last week, I watched a mom hand her daughter the keys to their new home in SE Portland—and I felt my throat catch.

It was a small craftsman near Woodstock, nothing flashy. But for this family, it was everything. After years of apartment living and bouncing between rentals, they were finally home. Their own backyard. Their own mailbox. Stability.

The daughter—maybe 9 or 10—took the key like it was sacred. She ran to the front door, unlocked it herself, and said quietly, “We live here now.”

That moment reminded me why we do this.

It’s easy in this business to focus on contracts, comps, timelines, and transactions. But at the heart of it? We’re helping people create the spaces where life happens—first steps, birthday candles, hard conversations, quiet dinners, fresh starts.

Sometimes the job is hard. Sometimes the deals are messy. But when you get to witness someone arrive—not just at a house, but at a new chapter in their life—that’s the moment that makes it all worth it.

That’s why we do this. Not for the keys—but for what they unlock.

Every home has a story. We’re here to help you write the next chapter.
